Jimmy Carter’s death has brought a moment of national unity to a divided America on Thursday January 9, 2025 as all five living US presidents gathered for their predecessor’s marking state funeral in Washington’s National Cathedral, Washington Capitol.

According to report coming from Washington DC, the United States Capital says “In historic scenes just 11 days before Donald Trump” returns to the White House for the second term,

The report also said Donald Trump shook hands with former president Barack Obama on the country’s day of mourning.

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to support the newly inaugurated Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama of Nigeria’s commitment to foster a stronger bi-lateral relations between the two west African Nations.

President Tinubu made the pledge while delivering a key note address at the inauguration ceremony of President Mahama’s second term as Ghana’s President at the Black Star Square, Accra, Ghana

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the key note address praised Ghana’s democratic progress and emphasized the importance of African unity and cooperation.

He noted that Ghana has answered the question of whether Africa is capable of democratic and productive endeavors, which he believed that it is time for Africa’s critics to stop asking the continent to prove itself.

According to the statement from the Presidential Spokesperson in charge of information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga on Monday January 6, 2025, the President would attend the inauguration ceremony of the Ghana’s President-elect today January 7, 2025 in Accra, the Ghanaian capital

The statement added that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was invited for the inauguration ceremony by the incoming President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama.

“The death of former President Jimmy Carter , who passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100, has prompted a 30-day national mourning period during which flags are to be flown at half-staff—a period that coincide with the Inauguration Day” of President-elect Donald Trump.

Africa This Week learnt that the President Joe Biden had described the order as “an expression of public sorrow” in honour of the passing away of the 39th USA former President Jimmy Carter, whose state funeral is scheduled for January 9 at the Washington National Cathedral.
